Equipment

  • 12" circle baking pan or pizza baking sheet
  • 1 Frying pan
  • 1 large kitchen knife
  • 1 large cutting board
  • 1 cooling rack or pizza tray with holes

Ingredients

  • 300-450 grams homemade or store-bought pizza dough depends on desired pizza and crust thickness
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted or salted butter room temperature
  • 2 cloves garlic grated or minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil to grease the pizza pan
  • 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese shreded
  • 3/4 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup feta cheese crumbled
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup diced red onions
  • 1/4 cup kalamata olives pitted and sliced
  • red pepper flakes optional
  • grated parmesan cheese optional
  • hot honey or honey optional

Ground Beef (Pizza Topping)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 350 grams extra lean ground beef cooked
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon roasted garlic powder

Instructions

  • Step 1: Press the pizza dough. Grease the bottom and sides of a 12" pizza pan or round baking dish with olive oil. Flatten or roll out the pizza dough into a circle and place it in the greased pan. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and set aside at room temperature for 30 minutes.
1 tablespoon olive oil, 300-450 grams homemade or store-bought pizza dough
  • Step 2: Cook the ground beef. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break it into smaller pieces using a wooden spoon or spatula. Season with dried oregano, roasted garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and no pink remains. Remove from heat and set aside.
350 grams extra lean ground beef, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/4 teaspoon roasted garlic powder, 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Step 3: Prepare the toppings. Preheat your oven to 450-500 degrees F on bake. While the dough rests, you can prepare the toppings. The vegetables can be raw, they don't need to be cooked before being added to the pizza. Dice the red onions, tomatoes, and kalamata olives. Use a grater to shred the mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Mix together the room temperature butter with minced garlic in a small bowl.
2 tablespoons unsalted or salted butter, 2 cloves garlic, 3/4 cup mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup feta cheese, 1/4 cup diced tomatoes, 1/4 cup diced red onions, 1/4 cup kalamata olives, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 350 grams extra lean ground beef, 3/4 cup cheddar cheese
  • Step 4: Add the toppings. Use your hands to press the pizza dough to fill the entire greased pan. Press the dough into the sides to form a crust. Use your fingers to press down into the dough to create little bumps. Spread a generous amount of garlic butter on top of the pizza dough. Sprinkle the garlic butter base with half the amount of the mixed cheese and crumbled feta. Top with cooked ground beef, diced tomatoes, onions, and black olives, and cover with the remaining amount of mixed cheese and feta.
  • Step 5: Bake and cut the pizza. Once the oven is preheated, bake the pizza on the middle rack for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. Remove the pizza from the oven, wearing an oven mitt to hold the dish securely. Use a large knife to gently slide under the pizza, lifting it out of the dish and onto a cutting board and let it rest briefly. Slice the pizza, then transfer to a cooling rack to keep the crust crisp. Top with parmesan, hot honey, chili flakes, or basil.
red pepper flakes, grated parmesan cheese, hot honey or honey

Notes

  • Grease the bottom and sides of the baking pan or pizza dish with plenty of olive oil.  Don't skip out on the olive oil.  This will add so much flavour and give you that crispy, golden brown crust we all desire.  Allow the pressed dough to rest on the sheet pan for at least 30 minutes at room temperature.  The dough will be easier to stretch out once it's at room temperature.
  • Lightly press the dough to create little bumps before adding the garlic butter and pizza toppings.
  • Spread out the toppings and cheese evenly on the pizza, leaving a little bit of the dough exposed around the edges for the crust.
  • There are some veggies that have more water in them (tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, bell peppers, spinach).  An excess amount of these ingredients, while still delicious, will tend to produce a soggier pizza.
  • The temperature of the oven needs to be very hot. I'm normally very impatient when it comes to preheating the oven, but you really need to make sure the oven is hot before baking the pizza.  Because the oven temperature will be really hot, I would recommend keeping an eye on the pizza while it's in the oven.  Depending on your oven, you may need to rotate the pizza halfway through baking.
  • Bake the pizza on the middle rack in the oven for best results.
  • If you're using frozen store-bought pizza dough, it will need to dethaw overnight in the fridge.
